3's: Beach Day

Once a year, in the middle of winter (which really isn't so bad where we live), we take a one day reprieve and head to the beach ... an indoor beach.

A little sand,

a little water,

some shells,

some fun!

A great day at the (indoor) beach!

2's: Snowball Fight!

The 2's weren't quite sure what to make about the snowball fight but they figured it out and had a great time!

But first, snowball toss!

Comin' at ya!

By the looks of things, I think they figured out what to do with the snowballs!

Now for some real snow!😉

4's: Snowy Daze

January has gone by in a blur.  Pictured are just a few of the activities that kept our 4's busy this month.

Snow Portraits

This guy in particular would look at them every day pointing which picture belonged to each person.

Making snowmen from the items in our winter sensory bin.

This group was very excited about their friendship mix!

After reading "The Jacket I Wear in the Snow" we traced around our leaders and drew the clothing items worn in the story.  They helped spell the words by identifying the beginning sounds of each item.

Then they colored the picture.

And since we have two classes, we hung each one on the wall!  Everyone really enjoyed this.  Thanks to Pre-K Pages for idea!

We made some crystals.  To be honest, making the crystals was not very hands on for the kids but once they had formed they had a great time exploring their very own crystals.

Additional exploration took place as well!!!😊

We used some of the snow from our sensory bin to play and create.  Some drew shapes, silly pictures and some wrote letters.

A little game for some one to one correspondence

and decorating picture frames with snowflakes.  They drew a self portrait and put it in the frame.

Sometimes, when one decides to read a book, they all want to follow suit.  That's exactly what happened here.  Not only did they all decide to read a book but they decided that this is how they wanted to sit!  Love. This.💗

The days you just want to cozy up and read a book with some friends ... yup, just happened.

We are going to try this experiment when the weather is much warmer and we need to cool off.  We placed some apple juice in a small baggie then added ice and salt to a large baggie.  We then placed the small baggie in the large bag of ice and everyone took a turn shaking the bag.  As one child said, "It's not cold, it's VERY cold."  We ended up with a delicious apple slushy.  This activity was so quick, easy and delicious that we whipped up another batch.  Thank you sciencekiddo.com!

Enjoying the homemade frozen treat.

And then something wonderful happened, unexpected, unplanned.  Everyone was amazed as the condensation from the bags dripped on the floor and the water crept everywhere.  We thought this was so funny!  So we had to have a little fun with this too.

When the water stopped, we wanted to make it "walk" too.  We learned that if we blew on top of the water it wouldn't go anywhere.  So we talked about some other options.

And the kids decided to try blowing from the side.  They were pretty excited!

Of course, we had to clean up all the water.  They were amazed at how the water "walked" to the paper towel.  When it was all soaked up, the carpet was dry.  Yup, that was pretty much a fun time!

3's: Winter Fun and Games

Walking like penguins: If you want to learn how to walk like a penguin just put some balloons between your knees and walk without dropping the balloon.  We may not make very good penguins but we had a lot of fun!

Are you taller or shorter than a penguin?

Snowball races - pick it up with a spoon,

carry it to the basket,

drop it in,

then have a snowball fight!
