2's: Small muscles activities

Lots of daily activities, like getting dressed and eating, require control of the small muscles in the hands.  Children can do more and more things for themselves when they strengthen their fine motor skills.  The activities vary but the 2's have lots of opportunity to practice these skills each class day.

As you can see, we take our work very seriously!  It's fun to strengthen those muscles!!

4's: Pumpkin Carving

Cold, slimy, wet, yucky, stringy, gooey, nasty and gross are the words we used to describe the inside of a pumpkin.  It was a challenge for some to put their hands inside the pumpkin but we all had fun!  Before we cut open the pumpkin, we identified these parts: stem, skin, leaves, seeds and pulp.  We named the outside parts and then cut it open and named the inside parts as we cleaned it out.

3's: Fun and Games

The parents got involved in the games and activities during the Halloween party!  The morning class enjoyed a game of pumpkin toss.

And the afternoon class had fun with candy corn races!

4's: National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

We couldn't let this day go by without celebrating it!  National Chocolate Cupcake Day is October 18th and on Monday, October 19th we had a great time making our own chocolate cupcakes and chocolate icing.  First, we talked about what an ingredient is and what ingredients we needed.  We made a list, then measured and mixed.

           The batter is ready!

 The cupcakes are baked and ready to be iced.  Some enjoyed eating the icing all by itself and some took frosting the cupcake itself very seriously!

4's: All the Leaves are Falling Down

Rhyme and repetition are important for emergent readers.  The 4's classes recently performed the play "Johnny's Fall Leaves" which is one story that has a lot of repetition.  It was a beautiful fall day as family and friends gathered to watch the performance.

4's: Emergency Nurses Day

Emergency Nurses Week was October 11 - 17th and we celebrated Emergency Nurses Day on Wednesday, October 14th by inviting some very helpful nurses into the classroom to explain what to do in an emergency and what to expect if we end up in the emergency room.  A big thank you to Heather Evans and Sandy Tripp for taking time to help us stay safe!
