4's: National Chocolate Cupcake Day!

We couldn't let this day go by without celebrating it!  National Chocolate Cupcake Day is October 18th and on Monday, October 19th we had a great time making our own chocolate cupcakes and chocolate icing.  First, we talked about what an ingredient is and what ingredients we needed.  We made a list, then measured and mixed.

           The batter is ready!

The cupcakes are baked and ready to be iced.  Some enjoyed eating the icing all by itself and some took frosting the cupcake itself very seriously!

What is your favorite cupcake?

4's: All the Leaves are Falling Down

Rhyme and repetition are important for emergent readers.  The 4's classes recently performed the play "Johnny's Fall Leaves" which is one story that has a lot of repetition.  It was a beautiful fall day as family and friends gathered to watch the performance.

4's: Emergency Nurses Day

Emergency Nurses Week was October 11 - 17th and we celebrated Emergency Nurses Day on Wednesday, October 14th by inviting some very helpful nurses into the classroom to explain what to do in an emergency and what to expect if we end up in the emergency room.  A big thank you to Heather Evans and Sandy Tripp for taking time to help us stay safe!

Is there a future in the medical field for this young man?

Checking oxygen levels.

Thank you!

3's: Fun Time Farm Field Trip

Fun Time Farm and Corn Maze provided just that - a lot of FUN for our 3's as they enjoyed a trip to the farm last week.  Whether riding the hayride, posing with scarecrows, pretending to be a scarecrow or enjoying time with family, lots of smiles were found.

Picking a pumpkin in the pumpkin patch requires a lot of muscle!

Did someone say DIRT PILE!?!
Exploring the old schoolhouse
Riding a bull!
As you can see, we had a beautiful sunny day.  What kind of activities do you like to do in the fall?

2's: Tunnel Time

Gross motor skill practice can take place in the classroom as well as on the playground and the 2's classes had a good time with their inside tunnel activity last week.  When they completed their "crawling activity", they read the book The Itsy Bitsy Spider and enjoyed making spider webs by placing a piece of black construction paper in a box, dipping marbles in white paint, placing them in the box and shaking the box.  They created webs fit for an itsy bitsy spider.  Shake, shake, shake!

4's: There's Always Hope!

To say we were blessed last week with a visit from Hope Smith at Art of Hope in Wallace is an understatement.  She started with a blank canvas,

and had us all mesmerized as we watched her paint and contributed ideas to the painting that unfolded before us.

Her joy was contagious as she interacted with us and showed us how she mixes paints to get such a variety of bright colors!

Examining the finished product.

4's: Field trips and a Fire Truck

Fall is such a great time to go on field trips.  We had a beautiful sunny day to go on our trip to the pumpkin patch.  It looks like everyone, adults included, had a great time picking a pumpkin!  Picking out a pumpkin is serious business!!

Have you picked out your pumpkin yet?

Some yummy apple cider was a delicious treat.
While visiting the fire department recently we enjoyed spraying water and wearing a "much-too-big-but-real" fire fighter's hat.

No trip to the fire department is complete without a picture on the back of the truck!

2's: October Fun

Fine motor skills simply means to work on the small muscles in the hands, fingers and arms.  Our 2's are having a great time "working" on those skills each day they attend class.  They don't know that the activities their teachers give them to do are helping them with things like early literacy and self-help skills but they do know they are having a great time "playing" with the assorted items pictured below!
Small tongs (perfect for a 2 year old!) and cotton balls.
Forming play dough into a triangle, our shape of the month.
Painting with paint brushes or markers, either way is fun!

4's: Apple Turnovers

We had a lot of apples on hand and talked about the many things we could make with them.  After taking a vote it was decided to make Apple Turnovers!  What a great way to conclude our apple unit.  It was great fun chopping the apples, rolling out the dough and waiting patiently while the turnovers baked.  Then we put our taste testers to work trying the finished product. Not everyone was a fan but we got an overwhelming thumbs up!

Fire Safety in the 3's Room

Some had more fun than others mixing red and yellow to make orange!

A big THANK YOU to the Beulaville Fire Dept. for coming and sharing with our 3's ...

... and riding by with the siren going!
